Enroll now for one of three start dates in September 2015!

Calvert is pleased to offer Calvert Academy Middle School (CAMS), a dynamic program for Sixth through Eighth Grades that uses the latest instructional tools to provide an online environment that prepares students for high school.

Calvert will have three cohorts for fall 2015 beginning on September 8, 21 and 28. Enrollment for each cohort closes two weeks prior to the start date to allow sufficient time for testing, class selection and course materials to arrive.

Program Details

The Calvert Academy is a program designed for families who want their student to attend an online middle school. Using a blend of digital and printed materials the learning guide and teacher work together to ensure mastery of course content.

Live instruction is provided every week to supplement home studies. The schedule of live instruction varies by course and by teacher. The teacher grades all assignments and tests, while also monitoring student performance and providing support and direction.

Flex Paced School Year

Calvert Academy Middle School is conducted on a flex paced school-year schedule. It is patterned after the traditional academic calendar, running September through June with semester breaks and a summer break. There are three individual start dates for each semester when a group of students will begin live instruction for their coursework. Students may move within these cohorts as needed to accommodate their lifestyle or to ensure for mastery of the material. View the 2015/16 Calendar here!

Teaching Services

Teachers in CAMS are subject matter experts and are assigned based on subject matter and level. Each student’s core teacher also acts as a Homeroom Instructor, who monitors the student’s overall progress and performance. Interactive teaching is conducted in various forms:

  • Class Sessions - the teachers hold weekly live sessions that are topic based to the content area.
  • Small Group Sessions - these can be tutoring sessions, group projects/presentations, collaboration sessions, and opportunities for interactivity across subject areas.
  • Grading- teachers use the quality feedback provided in grading as a teaching moment to share in the learning and offer opportunities of growth and next steps.
  • Office Hours - the teachers have weekly office hours available for tutoring, answering questions, and any general support needed for students.
